by Jen Hopkins

Soap making is a great hobby that can be done by a lot of people due to the ease of making soap. But even though it is an easy hobby, most people will still have a hard time learning the different techniques needed at the start. More experienced ones may run out of ideas that they can put into their soaps. If you are one of these people, you may follow these simple soap making tips.

A lot of beginners are excited in making their own soap that they often try using their own recipes in making their own soap. This is not the way to go as soap making is a precise process, especially if you are using the cold process. You will need to do some research and make sure that your ingredients are in the correct amounts in order to make a good type of soap.

Once you have honed your soap making skills, you may try using other methods of making soap, and experimenting by changing the amount and type of ingredients that you use. This way, you will be able to come up with soaps that have the exact properties that you want it to have.

For soap makers that have more experience in soap making, you may be running out of ideas of how to design your soap. You don't have to rush and make soaps with really great designs such as those that you see being sold in specialty stores. You may want to mix and match different colors, use molds, or do some simple sculpting with your soap while they have not yet fully hardened.

You can achieve great effects using just coloring dyes by changing how you pour these dyes onto your soap mixture. A tie dye effect can be achieved by slowly pouring your dye while mixing your liquid soap mixture. Once this hardens, the color effect will remain thus making it a permanent design of your soap.

Using a lot of different small soaps and combining them is also a great way to design your soap. Similar to how you used clay, made different shapes and put them together when you were younger, you can also apply the same principle in designing your soaps. You can try imitating real life sculptures, make soap that looks like food and other objects which can make it really appealing.

You can also try using special ingredients to add to the appeal of your soap. You may put in herbal extracts, leaves, and other objects that you can think of. You may also may transparent soaps so that these can be seen if you embed them within your soap.

If you combine these different tips and tricks, you will be able to come up with really great designs in the future. Just be sure that you don't overdo it and apply all of the techniques in a single soap at once without giving it any thought. You might end up making more of a mess than a soap with a very appealing design.
