Today we all know that smoking had very damaging consequences to our health. That does not make it any less difficult for smokers to quit. There is such a variety of stop smoking programs available that it is sometimes hard to decide which one is best. The key is to find the program that best fits your needs.

One of the methods used in stop smoking programs is hypnosis. Hypnosis to stop smoking has many advantages. It requires no drugs or tobacco substitutes and can be very effective. It is accepted by the medical world as a legitimate tool for smoking cessation. The main two drawbacks are that repeat sessions may be needed and that not everyone can be hypnotized.

To aid in your desire to stop smoking you can get a prescription medication from your doctor. These medications need physician follow up and tend to be a bit costly. As with other prescription drugs, these medications have been know to have negative side effects. People with certain medical conditions should not take these medications. The risk of smoking versus the risk of the medication must be carefully weighted.

Others may prefer to use an herbal remedy to stop smoking. There are several different herbs and combinations used to help smokers quit and some experimenting may be needed to find the product that works for any one individual. One type is an herb called lobelia which seems to mock the effect of nicotine and helps transition from smoking to smoke free.

Acupuncture is used in some stop smoking programs. One acupuncture method uses the traditional needles to stimulate your energy channels. The needles will stop your urges to smoke. Another method involves placing a surgical staple in your ear, which will remain there until you have finished quitting smoking.

For stop smoking programs to be successful they must offer counseling and support to their patients. Sometimes this counseling alone is used to help quit smoking. The physical addiction from smoking can be remedied in several days but the mental reliance can continue for quite a while. That is why the best programs offer consideration to the mental outlook of the smoker.

The health hazards of smoking are no secret, but smokers still find it quite difficult to quit. The vast array of stop smoking programs available can complicate matters, making it difficult to decide which program will work best for each individual smoker. Each smoker requires a program that best suits his or her individual needs. A lot of people have used hypnosis to stop smoking. Using hypnosis is can be extremely successful in halting tobacco use. Some people choose to use an herbal remedy to stop smoking. Different herbs and mixtures of herbs may help people quit.
